Union for Promotion of Rural Green Tourism Development in Ukraine was founded in Kiev’ 1996 as a public, non-for-profit organization.

The objectives of the Union are:

• promote  recreation in Ukrainian countryside,
• facilitate the development of the rural infrastructure and
• self-employment of the rural population,
• educate the respect to the beauties of native land, hospitable local people, existing cultural and historical heritage of the Ukrainian nation;
• environmental protection.

Head of the Union and one of its founders of is Mr. Volodymyr Vasyliev. Head consultant is Dr. Chaku Chabo, President of Central and Eastern Europe Federation of Green Tourism.

Major stages of development and achievements:

 1996 – 2001 - promotion of recreation in Ukrainian countryside

• Rural green tourism centres were opened by the Union  in 18 regions of Ukraine
• 1997 Union founded popular scientific magazine “Green Rural Tourism”
• organization of conferences, round tables and trainings in the regions of Ukraine on green tourism opportunities for rural habitants
• since 1999 Union takes part in international exhibitions and fairs
• with the support of international funds 7 projects were  carried out since 1997
• Notion “rural green tourism” was included into 2 President’s of Ukraine Decrees on Major ways of tourism development (1999) and on Social development of the rural regions (2000).

2002 – 2004 – elaboration of the beneficial legal base, with leading countries experience implementation, for stable development of rural green tourism in Ukraine

As a brand new product on the Ukrainian tourism market, guide – books on the rural green tourism were published by the Union.

Among the crucial goals of the Union are:

• Implementation of Lodgings’ voluntary certification system as basis element of the rural tourism. This system will define the proprietors’ rights and service quality of the rural lodging.
• Work of the information tourism boards in Kiev and regional rural green tourism centres, whose functions are promotion of green tourism, tourists’ attraction and providing services for them.
• Development of the clear correlation system between different parts of the rural green tourism, especially between organization part and proprietors’ part
• Cooperation with autonomous bodies in the sphere of favourable conditions for rural tourism development and stable tourist flow to the countryside.
